What's involved in a Health check?
The Health Checks involve four simple measures (body mass index - BMI, blood pressure, total cholesterol and blood glucose levels) that give useful insights into your health and wellbeing:
Body Mass Index (BMI) – Calculates body fat based on your weight in relation to your height. It's a screening tool for weight categories that may lead to health problems.
Blood Pressure – Measures the force of blood against artery walls. High blood pressure (hypertension) often has no symptoms but is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.
Cholesterol – Measures the level of fats (lipids) in your blood. High cholesterol can lead to a buildup of plaque in arteries, increasing the risk of heart attack or stroke.
Blood Glucose – Measures the amount of sugar in your blood. This is a key test for screening and diagnosing prediabetes and diabetes.
Where can I get one?
You can complete your Health Check at participating Unichem or Life Pharmacy. Pharmacy staff are fully trained and equipped to deliver accurate results by the end of your check-up (so you’re not left waiting to hear back from your tests).
